Startupticker: "Ronovatec robotic mower: from prototype to proven employee"

The startup Ronovatec, founded in Immensee in 2017, has succeeded in entering the market. Already 14 service robot systems are in use for the professional management of sports fields in Western Europe. Another will be making its rounds in Hong Kong in the fall of 2023. And to ensure that RoviMo's developments can be pushed even further, the young company is in talks with investors.

Precise mowing in accordance with FIFA/UEFA guidelines is something the mowing robot from the startup Ronovatec can already do. What is still missing for use by top football clubs is automatic grass collection and emptying. Initial talks and tests with such football clubs have shown that their demands on the grass pitches are very high: Leftover grass clippings can encourage bacteria to multiply and be carried from pitch to pitch. "The mechanics are already working, and we're starting the beta testing phase in the new year," says co-founder Marcus Riva. He expects the service robot systems to be multifunctional by 2024.

Other requirements are to be met on public sports fields, such as those in the city of Zurich. The city gardeners of Grün Stadt Zürich now have three mowing robots at their disposal. Following a pre-series model, the city purchased two more Series 1 RoviMo's this year. The cities of Basel and Chur as well as the municipality of Vaduz also each have a mowing robot in use. In addition, a robot has been reliably making its rounds on a public sports field in France since mid-July. Four more RoviMo systems have been sold to Germany, Austria, France and the Netherlands for demonstration purposes to Ronovatec's sales partners. According to Riva, this means that two milestones have been reached: "We have set our sights on progressing in the area of series production and internationalization this year, and we have successfully achieved this."
In total, the Immensee-based startup has already sold fourteen robotic mowers since its launch in 2021. Recently, there was even an inquiry from Hong Kong: "We won a trial tender and can install our system locally in 2023," says Riva. This robotic mower will be the first showcase in Asia.
To date, Ronovatec has funded its development with money from private sources and technology funds. Now the startup has launched a first round of financing and is in talks with professional investors. The fresh capital is expected to flow into further developments such as expansion to double the area output.
